One way to find out. I'm gonna try all 3 with my warrior here before long. Collect all the elites and then just go crazy. :P
Been using axes myself, just got eviscerate. Good skill. |

Axes and swords are basically the same except swords have 15-22 damage and axes have 8-26. I would go sword because it has less range in between the 15-22. My warrior has sword mastery and he rocks.
Swords all the way! |

Sword. Gotta love a sword, damage output is nice, constantly alot, axe has highs and lows but sword will stay a good amount (have your swordsmanship to 15-16 for it to really be better) and most of the sword attack skills are better (seeking blade/pure strike)

Pure strike and seeking blade cost 5 energy and recharge times are 4 and 8 seconds.... after using both twice your energy is spent and youre screwed. Cleave costs 4 adrenaline!!!!! (you get adrenaline while attacking and getting hit) and you get 25+ damage to the original damage you had done. |

hammers are king for pvp, they offer some brutal disruption options. a well played hammer warrior makes me cringe when im on a mes/ele/mo/ne.
axes are king for damage, spamming cleave and penetrating, with disrupting and executioners thrown in for good measure... you can REALLY lay on some hurt. swords are king for looking neat. they are passable in play, and ill freely admit hamstring is nice. galrath and dinal slash can put out some hurt in the right circumstances.... but axe gives you better ALL the time instead of every now and again. hammer is far better than just having hamstring if you want to slow down/disrupt your targets. in short, play with sword if you want to look cool, play with hammer/axe if you want to be effective. ive used all 3 extensively in pvp and even occasionally in pve. sword can find a home in niche builds, and has a couple nice skills.... but in the hands of a skilled player, an axe or hammer warrior is infinately more dangerous. |

Sword is the more defensive way to go, and although it has spike potential with Final Thrust it takes 10 strikes to get it away. Hundred Blades... eh, you have cyclone axe, just as effective with less recharge time and it keeps your elite open. Hammer, knockdown... very effective, just wait till it happens to you.
This topic has gone into extensive lengths time and time again. If you do a search you can find a lot of details about. Personally, sword. |

lol swords are ok. i have experiments with all weapons and i like axes the best ive fought many sword warrior and own them with axes. i like to use executioner, penetration, eviscerate, axe rake, disruption axe, bersker.
eviserate is one of the best skills and usefull too. +40 damge and deepwound, followed by axe rake which criples them. then follow up with executioner, penetration. if you use berskers you can bust all of them out. right now i tried this new build i replaced disruption with apply poison, and put in cyclone axe. it works wonders. the target has 10% less healing, 20% less health, crippled, poisioned, and if you have a warrior buddy trow in bleeding. |

You forgot to mention that cyclone axe is quite neat. Its a proper area effect, unlike Hundred Blades which is also an elite.

I find swords work best for me and have yet to find any axe skill that beats final thurst. Aslo swords have a faster attack speed than an axe and a better dps.

i think its all depends on your build.
axe skills have lots of conditions and can hit an area. axes can have more benifit from vapiric and zealous hilts. swords have more consistant dmg and dmg skills. |

axes can inflict more conditions, and they have a greater variety of skills then swords.
axes are better. |
